How to grow lavender

What better way to delight the senses than by gardening, but how better to delight the sense of smell than filling your garden with the beautiful perfume of Lavender.

Lavender is a worldwide famous herb grown for it’s sweet scent and it’s lovely grey to green foliage and mauve coloured flowers. Lavender is also reputed to contain medicinal properties that help stimulate and improve health. One thing is for sure, Lavender is a delight to grow because whenever you touch or brush past it, it perfumes the air with it’s wonderful sweet smell.

POTS
To grow Lavender, it requires a sunny position and does not like shade at all. It will grow very well in pots and makes a wonderful sight in terracotta pots. Most importantly, it needs good drainage. If growing in pots, for good strong and healthy growth use Searles Herb and Vegetable Specialty Mix.

GARDEN
When growing Lavender in the garden, be sure to position it in a sunny well drained position. To prepare the soil, dig in some 5 IN 1 Organic Fertiliser before planting.

SWEET LOVING LAVENDER
Lavender also likes a sweet soil, of neutral to alkaline pH, so it will help to mix some Dolomite into the soil before planting.

WATERING & FERTILISING
Lavender will grow very well with minimum maintenance. They will only need watering once to twice a week and an occasional fertilising with Searles Flourish Liquid Plant Food.

To keep them growing well, be sure to regularly prune them. Not only will this keep them compact, but you will be delighted with their marvellous perfume.

So for beautiful perfumed Lavender:

  • Plant in a sunny position
  • Use Searles Herb and Vegetable Mix for pots or Searles 5 IN 1 for the garden
  • Add Dolomite to the soil to sweeten the soil
  • And fertilise with Searles Flourish Soluble Plant Food


Your garden will smell beautiful with lovely Lavender perfume all year round.
